It's a pleasure to find a curriculum which features a diversity of disciplines from math to history to geography to social studies to science, and a diversity of ethnic viewpoints - all in one place! To make sure that teachers find it attractive we have taken the time to correlate the lessons and games to the Oregon and Washington middle school benchmarks. The NPSC curriculum comes with a teacher's guide containing 13 lessons and several simulation games, and all the materials needed. The curriculum concludes with the Power Game, in which an entire classroom can do role playing around issues on which there will be no shortage of opinions. Teachers have several options to match different classroom styles and strategies: You can copy the lessons and games from this web site and begin teaching now (providing your own science materials), you can borrow the full NPSC kit containing handouts and supplies, or you can take a middle course - teaching the lessons from the web and ordering The Power Game or Power Board Game. Here are the various options and the benchmarks addressed in this unique program:
Note: Most of the lessons and components of the Power Game and Power Board Game are in PDF format, which requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader program to view. The Acrobat Reader program can be downloaded free from the Adobe web site.
NPSC Now! - You can begin using the lessons immediately. Just click here and take a look at the lessons and game. You might be able to supply the few materials needed from your own science supplies for lessons 1 - 13. Most of the large experiments require easy to obtain supplies (cardboard boxes, plastic garbage bags, etc.). To play The Power Game, just click on the game site for everything you need or click below to order the Power Game only.
The Power Board Game - Available as a classroom set free from BPA.
