PUBLIC USE OF THE BPA LIBRARY
SERVICE POLICY FOR NON-BPA LIBRARY USERS
Visitors to the Library may use most of the materials in our collection. As time
permits, Library staff will help find materials and provide a limited amount of
technical assistance. A photocopy
machine is available for a limited amount of copying at no charge, provided
copyright laws are observed.
Because of the security sensitivity of some information in this library, BPA is
limiting access to some documents.
BPA regrets any inconvenience caused by this decision, which reflects an awareness
of the need to protect the public.
The following materials may usually be borrowed from the Library: books in the general collection, microfiche
copies of government publications, and some publications from the BPA collection. However, the Library reserves
the right to refuse permission to borrow any item,
or to limit the
number of items borrowed, either in total or at any one time.
The following materials may NOT usually be loaned without a Librarian’s permission:
maps, serials, reference books, documents from the reference or utility files, and
IEEE, IEE, and CIGRE conference proceedings,
The loan period is 4 weeks unless otherwise noted at the time of the loan.
However, the borrower agrees to return at once any material needed by a BPA
staff member.
Borrowing privileges are extended, at the discretion of the BPA Librarians, for
certain non-BPA people as follows. Individuals not belonging to any of the categories
below should submit an Interlibrary Loan (
The general basic rule is: If no
RETIRED BPA EMPLOYEES: Need a
“Request for Borrowing Privileges” form on file, but no guarantor signature
needed. All privileges, except those
that may incur a cost.
FEDERAL EMPLOYEES, NON-BPA: Need a
“Request for Borrowing
Privileges” form on file, with guarantor signature.
All privileges, except those that may incur a cost.
EMPLOYEES OF OTHER PUBLIC OR PRIVATE AGENCIES OR COMPANIES:
Person signing as guarantor must have authority to assume financial responsibility
for materials borrowed by the applicant.
A permanent faculty member at a local college or university may sign as guarantor
for a student. Applicants may not sign for themselves as their own guarantors.

OTHER LIBRARIES: Telephone call, email,
and/or Interlibrary Loan. Personal
visits are always welcomed.
Please note: the non-return of
