About BPA Energy Efficiency
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) has a rich and varied history of providing valuable energy efficiency services to consumers throughout the Pacific Northwest. For more than 20 years, BPA, working with public utilities, state and local governments, and private firms, has brought energy efficiency improvements to hundreds of thousands of homes, thousands of commercial buildings, over four hundred industrial plants, and numerous agricultural systems. Insulating homes, building to higher energy standards, improving assembly line production, enhancing irrigation pumping, and installing energy-wise appliances have all contributed to a better way of life for Northwesterners. People today live more comfortably, industries work more efficiently, larger crops are being harvested and offices offer a better working environment.
Between 1980 and 2000, BPA was the major funder and overseer of conservation in the region, investing over $1.79 billion and gaining almost 775 average megawatts of power. We, in effect, built a large power plant. One that is emissions free, completely non-intrusive, works night and day, and takes little maintenance. One whose power output is nearly enough energy to serve the combined electricity needs of Boise, Idaho and Tacoma, Washington.
Although BPA has moved away from its role as a central funder of conservation, the agency remains an important voice and contributor in the Pacific Northwest. We know there is more conservation to be had and we are committed to helping the Northwest continue to benefit from those opportunities. We now take what we know best -- effective energy management -- and focus our efforts on bringing together allies and partners to create the right mix of energy expertise, technical know-how, financing, installation, operations and maintenance to collectively deliver conservation solutions.
