March Workshop

BPA and the USB are hosting a utility-only workshop March 1 and 2 in Portland, Oregon. Focus of the workshop is on BPA's new energy efficiency initiatives and how customers can develop and implement programs to successfully fit within the new initiatives.

Register before January 16 for the early bird discount.

The concept of the March workshop was born in the initial meeting of the USB. Results of USB Customer Tools Survey conducted in November were used to help develop the workshop agenda.

Utilities can network and share strategies. Panelists, primarily from regional utilities, will speak on energy efficiency initiatives across the various market sectors.

The workshops offers an opportunity to network with vendors during an evening reception. Vendors who are interested in reserving a spaces to display their products and meet with utility conservation staff should contact Becky Clark at (503) 230-3158.

BPA Administrator Steve Wright joined Washington Senator Patty Murray in January to kick off the Olympic Peninsula economic experiment and Grid Friendly™ Appliance Demonstration Project.

The project is designed to field test appliances that will automatically interact with the electric power grid to make the grid more reliable and to reduce operating costs. Grid Friendly controllers have been installed in 150 newly developed Whirlpool electric dryers and 50 conventional electric water heaters. The controls monitor grid power frequency, and send temporary power curtailment requests to appliances when the frequency changes indicate the grid is under stress.
