BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Son of Roanoke residents honored
by the U.S. Department of Energy
PORTLAND, Ore. -
The Bonneville Power Administration, an agency under the U.S. Department of Energy, presented one of its highest honors of the year, the Administrator's Excellence Award for Unsung Hero, to Chris Milan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Milan, during a March 18 ceremony held at its Portland, Ore., headquarters.
The award, part of the agency's 2005 Administrator's Excellence Awards, recognizes outstanding achievement by employees whose innovation, initiative, superior service or courageous acts have made an exceptional contribution to BPA's mission, to the electric utility industry or to the community.
Milan, a mechanical engineer located in BPA's Portland, Ore., office, has a top reputation in the industrial sector across the U.S. and with Northwest power utilities. Two recent work results show why. The first is a software program he developed to calculate energy savings for electric motors and variable-frequency drives. Industry sites around the country now link to Milan's world-class VFD calculator on BPA's external Web site. His second recent huge success was his Guidebook for Performing Industrial Energy Audits. That, too, is posted on the BPA Web to assist companies in identifying opportunities to increase the efficiency of their plants. In all of his work in energy efficiency, Chris earns the praise of all who know him.
BPA Administrator Steve Wright said the award recognizes Milan "*for his many years of superior service and exceptional contribution to BPA's mission and the region we serve."
Nominees for the 2005 Administrator's Excellence Awards are selected by a panel of their peers for their exceptional achievements and the important role they play at BPA. The agency, a wholesale power-marketing agency that sells electric power from 31 federal dams and one nonfederal nuclear plant, employs about 3,100 people throughout its 300,000 square mile service territory.
Milan graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.
