Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard will be joined by Vickie VanZandt, BPA senior vice president for transmission, in a program to dedicate a new nine-acre, off-leash dog recreation area this Saturday at BPA's Vancouver Ross Complex. Mayor Royce and VanZandt will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

BPA donated use of nine acres on the south end of its Ross Complex for the community program. A nonprofit group, Dog Owners Group for Park Access in Washington (DogPaw), put up fences, installed dog-doo disposal stations, drafted rules for canine and human users of the park. The group will maintain the land. This is the first collaboration of its kind among the city of Vancouver, BPA and a dog owners' community group.

Dog care experts and vendors will be on hand to help celebrate the long-awaited off-leash area from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Ross Off-leash Area for Dogs is located between NE 15th Ave. and NE 18th Ave. in Vancouver. Directions:

  • I-5 exit 3 (Hazel Dell, Hwy. 99)
  • Head north on Hwy. 99
  • Go east on NE Ross St. to NE 18th Ave.
  • Parking at 18th Ave. and C-Tran's BPA parking lot on 15th Ave.
