Break-in at Covington Substation could be meth related
$25,000 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions
KENT, Wash. -
Thieves broke through a fence at the Bonneville Power Administration's Covington Substation during the weekend of Oct. 22-23 and carted off more than $7,000 worth of electrical components, the agency reported today.
"The stolen materials are consistent with metals theft associated with methamphetamine addiction," said Pete Jeter, BPA's lead physical security specialist. "Addicts steal the materials and sell them to recyclers for quick cash."
The King County Sheriff's Department and the federal Office of Security and Emergency Management have been notified, and an investigation is under way.
BPA will pay up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The BPA Crime Witness Hotline number is: (800) 437-2744. Call this number or the King County Sheriff.
