BPA's resulting Approach to Connecting Variable Generating Resources to the Grid achieves this end. To avoid exhausting balancing reserves, BPA will, when necessary, limit wind generation to scheduled amounts and will curtail wind transmission "e-tags" to actual wind generation. This allows BPA to add more wind projects in its grid while it develops alternatives to relying wholly on federal hydropower for reserves. Through September 2009, BPA's Wind Integration Team is implementing this approach. This page provides information on this effort.
