Brian Silverstein is Senior Vice President for Transmission Services at the Bonneville Power Administration. Transmission Services, based in Vancouver, Wash, built, operates and maintains more than 15,000 miles of transmission lines at voltages from 115-kV through 500-kV in the Northwest. BPA also operates a Balancing Authority Area with a peak load of 10,500 MW. Transmission Services is responsible for meeting safety, reliability standards as well as financial, risk management and customer objectives.

Most recently, Silverstein served as Vice President for Planning and Asset Management and chief engineer. He has been with BPA since 1979 working on transmission reliability and policy issues.

In April 2009 he was elected to the board of directors of the Western Electricity Coordination Council. He participated on the planning coordination committee for six years and served as chairman for the past two years.

Silverstein earned his master's degree in electric power from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from The Cooper Union. He is a registered professional engineer in Oregon.

Born and raised in New York City, Silverstein moved to the Northwest and joined BPA in 1979. Silverstein and his wife and daughter live in Portland. He enjoys music, outdoor activities and is a ham radio hobbyist.
