The vision of BPA Tribal Relations:
- BPA and Northwest Tribes understand and support each other's statutory, regulator, and treaty and executive order responsibilities and cultural values. [Note: To date, there are 54 federally recognized Tribes that are impacted by BPA activities within its service territory.]
- BPA and the 13 Columbia Basin Tribes under the Northwest Power Act work cooperatively as stewards of the region's resources.
- BPA and Northwest Tribes have mutually beneficial business ventures.
- BPA and each Northwest Tribe have a respectful government-to-government relationship.
The mission of BPA Tribal Relations is:
- to have an ongoing dialogue throughout all levels of BPA and Tribes' respective organizations to identify areas of common concern; to seek win-win solutions together; and to understand and respect each other's differences;
- to facilitiate partnerships based on common goals;
- to fulfill BPA's responsibilities to each of the 13 Columbia Basin Tribes under the Northwest Power Act; and
- to implement BPA's Tribal Policy to make it part of employees' everyday lives.
