BPA has a proven track record of delivering safe, reliable power to the Northwest. Even when hit by events that disrupt operations - including natural disasters such as the 1996 flood and wildfires that frequently threaten the region - BPA has responded effectively. We have a team of knowledgeable and experienced employees who take great pride in keeping the power flowing throughout the Northwest.
To ensure BPA is able to effectively respond to disruptive events, BPA has developed continuity of operations plans for our critical functions. These plans have been in place for several years and are designed to meet various statutory and regulatory requirements.
After analyzing BPA's continuity of operations planning between November 2006 and August 2007, the Department of Energy's Office of Inspector General made several recommendations on how we could strengthen our efforts, and we are already taking steps to fulfill those recommendations.
Within the next fiscal year, BPA will complete continuity of operations plans for our critical functions related to sustaining safe, reliable and adequate generation and transmission that meet the inspector general's recommendations. Planning for lower-priority functions will follow in fiscal year 2008 and 2009. Additionally, BPA is going beyond what is required by regulations and will work to integrate our COOP planning efforts with the region.
