Image Processing Occupancy Sensor

Image Processing Occupancy Sensors (IPOS) are a novel new occupancy sensor solution, using inexpensive cell phone components and open-source face and people recognition software. This innovative approach was developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, with partial sponsorship from the BPA Technology Innovations Office. Multiple use cases are being pursued, including occupancy control of lights and HVAC systems, daylighting control, daylighting system commissioning, occupancy logging and daylight logging.
