Variable Capacity Heat Pump Technology RoadmapAbstract
The Variable Capacity Heat Pump Measure Development Roadmap is one of the first outcomes of a structured process to identify research and development needs for emerging, energy-efficient technologies in the Pacific Northwest. This Roadmap is essentially a snapshot of stakeholders' current perspectives in regard to a shared research agenda for the next twenty years. Supported by the Portland State University Department of Engineering and Technology Management and the Washington State University Extension Energy Program, 35 experts from 20 organizations have participated to date. The roadmap is a living document that is continuously refined with new knowledge. It is intended as a living document, continuously refined as we move forward.
In support of BPA's Technology Innovation initiative, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) will design and construct a test stand with five climate chambers. This test stand will be used to gather data on performance of three advanced heat pump systems with variable refrigerant flow and heat recovery capability (VRF HR). Performance maps for these three VRF HR systems will be used to improve modeling software for simulation of building energy use. This project helps address gaps for Variable Refrigerant Flow systems identified in the National Energy Efficiency Technology Roadmap Portfolio.Project Team
