Glass Butte Radio Station [Crook County, Oregon]

BPA proposes to install a new radio tower, building and digital communications equipment on a new 0.5 acre site on BLM-managed land on Glass Butte, near Prineville, Oregon. Other actions would include acquiring two new beam path easements, acquire access road rights, make necessary upgrades to existing access roads, and install new underground conduit for fiber and power services to the site. BPA's proposal would require the BLM to amend its 1989 Brothers-La Pine Resource Management Plan (RMP). To understand the potential environmental impacts of this proposal, the BLM issued an environmental assessment (EA) on August 25th, 2017. BPA is participating as a cooperating agency in the EA development. Two alternatives are considered in the EA: to grant right-of-way on Glass Butte for BPA's proposed radio station facility, or not to grant right-of-way and continue with current practices. The EA describes anticipated impacts to natural and human resources and include mitigation measures that would enable BPA to avoid or minimize impacts. The Draft EA comment period closed September 25, 2017. BLM is currently working on developing the final decision documents.
