The Bonneville Power Administration has prepared a draft environmental assessment for a river restoration project proposed by the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho along the Kootenai River in Boundary County, Idaho. The draft EA describes the restoration project, discusses the anticipated environmental effects of the proposed actions and lists mitigation measures that help lessen those impacts. The Lower Meander Project is designed to improve habitat for federally-listed endangered Kootenai River white sturgeon, and address the needs of other native fish stocks in the Kootenai River. This is a compliment to other similar and recently completed restoration projects up and downstream from this one.
