Earlier this summer, the Bonneville Power Administration cancelled three of four planned power outages needed to conduct critical upgrades to its Fossil Substation effecting utility customers in Wheeler County, Oregon. BPA has decided to cancel the fourth power outage that was planned for Sept. 7-8.To facilitate the work that needs to be done at Fossil Substation, BPA has scheduled two new power outages that will last approximately 7-hours each during overnight hours in the middle of the week. The first of these new power outages is scheduled for Sept. 12, 11 p.m., to Sept. 13, 6 a.m. The second outage will take place the following month from Oct. 16, 11 p.m., to Oct. 17, 6 a.m.The reduced duration and dates selected for these new planned outages takes into account the concerns raised by the community that BPA shares regarding health and safety, fire suppression and response efforts, summer travel and tourism in and around Wheeler County. These concerns were weighed against BPA’s need to update equipment in the Fossil Substation so BPA can continue to provide reliable, low-cost renewable electricity to its customers and the community serves. If you have any questions, please contact John Tyler with BPA at (503) 230-5116.
