Industrial

Public utilities in the Pacific Northwest serve more than 2,000 megawatts of industrial load, and BPA has a long history of supporting and advancing energy efficiency throughout the region. BPA’s Energy Smart Industrial (ESI) program assists BPA utilities and their industries by providing resources and technical expertise to pursue cost-effective energy efficiency. ESI encompasses all industrial energy saving offerings and is designed to provide innovative tools for industrial end users of all different types, sizes and budget constraints.

Industrial Custom Projects
No two industrial customers are alike; each has its own unique opportunities to achieve a more energy efficient operation. To support energy savings in this highly variable sector, BPA supports custom energy efficiency projects. Industrial custom projects encompass retrofit, new construction efficiency projects, and energy management specific to the needs of each customer.

Energy Management
Energy efficiency can help improve industrial customer’s business performance without the cost of major capital improvements.
Energy efficiency is not always about installing new technology to upgrade facilities; Energy Management programs utilize improvements to business practices and processes to achieve energy savings without the high cost of large capital projects. Energy Management programs work with your industrial customers to find and implement business process improvements that save energy and improve performance.

Small Industrial
Industrial energy efficiency does not need to come from large capital projects or sweeping production improvements; taking small steps is easy to do and can make a big difference. Small Industrial measures provide cost effective, simple, energy efficient upgrades with broad market applicability. Small Industrial leverages trade ally networks to carry out projects where the energy savings are comparatively small. Simplified analysis tools assist with project execution.

Lighting
The Energy Smart Industrial (ESI) program collaborates with Northwest public utilities and the Northwest Trade Ally Network to help industrial facilities implement cost-effective energy efficient lighting projects. Lighting specialists that support this program can help save energy and increase profitability through a variety of services, including: project analysis, completing program paperwork, advice on the best lighting technology for your specific application, and completing the BPA lighting calculator tool.

Compressed Air
Industrial customers commit significant capital resources for compressed air systems that act as power sources for tools and equipment used for pressurizing, atomizing, agitating, and mixing applications. Optimizing compressed air systems can improve energy efficiency 20%-50% and dramatically reduce operations costs.

Distribution Efficiency

Distribution systems are stressed by an aging infrastructure and increased demand for power. Electricity distribution companies are under pressure to improve reliability and system performance, while dealing with the ongoing challenges of this aging infrastructure and increasing customer demands for higher reliability and power quality. BPA offers several distribution-level efficiency improvement measures through the BPA Energy Smart Utility Efficiency program, including reimbursements for high-efficiency transformer replacement, load balancing, reconductoring, and voltage optimization.

Energy Efficient Motors

Motor Decisions Matter
Facility managers are increasingly under pressure to reduce energy costs, increase productivity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Sound motor management is a key strategy to achieve these goals.
BPA participates in the Motor Decisions MatterSM (MDM) program to provide resources for motor management. MDM is a national public-awareness campaign sponsored by a consortium of electric utilities, industry trade associations, and others that provides support for companies seeking sound motor management strategies and tools.

Green Motors
When a motor fails, the user or owner faces three choices: to rewind to a lower efficiency; to rewind and maintain the original efficiency; or to replace it with a new motor. If the motor rewind resulted in the motor having maintained its original efficiency, it is commonly called a GREEN REWIND.
Participating utilities are offering incentives to motor end users and qualifying motor service centers.  Learn More about the Green Motors Program
