PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In 2014, BPA began planning to rebuild three, 230-kilovolt (kV) wood pole transmission lines between Hot Springs and Anaconda, Montana , including the Hot Springs to Rattlesnake, Rattlesnake to Garrison, and Garrison to Anaconda lines (referred to as the Hot Springs to Anaconda Transmission Line Rebuild Project). Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) submitted a Notice of Intent (DOE/EIS-0502) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on July 11, 2014 and held scoping meetings later that summer. Since 2014, BPA sold the Garrison to Anaconda line to Northwestern Energy and planning for the remaining two lines was delayed. BPA needs to develop new tower and access road designs on the remaining lines to meet changing site conditions and technical requirements. BPA has decided to cancel preparation of the EIS and will re-assess the project under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) as planning progresses in the future. On October 11, 2022, BPA published a Notice of Intent that informed the public that BPA no longer intends to prepare an EIS in connection with the Hot Springs to Anaconda Transmission Line Rebuild Project.
