PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) rebuilt its Alvey-Fairview 230-kilovolt Transmission Line between Eugene and Coquille, Oregon. To understand the potential environmental impacts of this proposal, BPA prepared an environmental assessment (EA). Two alternatives were studied in the EA: to rebuild the line or to not rebuild the line, and continue on with current operation and maintenance practices. The EA described anticipated impacts to natural and human resources and included mitigation measures that will help avoid or minimize impacts. The schedule for the environmental review was as follows:

Scoping comment period November 15, 2011 through December 28, 2011
Scoping public meeting November 30, 2011 in Sutherlin, Oregon
Scoping public meeting December 7, 2011 in Cottage Grove, Oregon
Draft EA comment period February 7, 2014 through March 3, 2014
Final EA April 21, 2014
Finding of No Significant impact April 21, 2014
Construction start Summer 2014/2015
Construction completed December 2015

CURRENT STATUS

BPA issued the final EA and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the project in 2014 and decided to proceed with the Proposed Action. Project construction is began in June 2014 and was completed in December 2015.
