BPA's The Energy Smart Industrial (ESI) program helps BPA's customer utilities and their industrial end users achieve cost-effective energy savings. Providing value to large and small industries alike, ESI offers a comprehensive suite of program components, best-in-class technical expertise, and resources to serve a broad range of industries. The ESI program works with a variety of facilities, including pulp and paper, high-tech manufacturing, food processing, water and wastewater, and general manufacturing—while targeting a diverse landscape of project types, sizes, and technologies.

Industrial Opportunities

All program offerings are supported by Energy Smart Industrial Partners (ESIPs), with Technical Support Pool resources available for custom projects, strategic energy management, and some prescriptive measures as necessary.

In October 2024 the ESI program celebrated 15 years of successful resource acquisition, having helped over 900 industrial facilities achieve more than 240 aMW of energy savings. That’s enough energy to power more than 175,000 Northwest homes for a year and represents more than $850 million in cumulative avoided costs for the region’s industries.
