A safety-first workforce

BPA prioritizes maintaining a safe workplace, encouraging every individual to take ownership of safety and supporting a safety-first mindset. Each person is expected to raise safety issues as appropriate and to eliminate hazards for the benefit of themselves and their co-workers. BPA provides its workforce with effective tools, such as CLEAR, for implementing safe work practices.

CLEAR stands for commitment, leadership, empowerment, accountability and resilience. It’s an approach that provides BPA with a framework for how personnel take actions and make decisions to keep themselves and others safe. Through CLEAR, BPA is working toward its goal of becoming the safest utility in North America.

In addition to offering comprehensive training programs that include AED, CPR, fall protection, hearing conservation, respiratory protection and flammable combustible liquids, BPA emphasizes proactive behaviors to eliminate hazards before they lead to injury. Using data from personnel-reported safety issues, BPA uses that information to correct problems and continuously improve its comprehensive safety programs.

Power Line Safety

You don’t have to be touching a power line to be a risk of getting shocked. Electricity can travel from one surface to another even when the two objects don’t touch.
