BPA is committed to the safety of its personnel, customers and communities, ensuring reliable and economical power delivery. Building on nearly 90 years of experience, BPA continuously adapts to emerging wildfire risks. This enhanced resilience approach targets fires originating from or impacting BPA's assets. The aim is to significantly reduce utility-caused ignitions and bolster transmission assets against active fires through robust inspections, strategic hardening, advanced situational awareness and optimized system operations for rapid response.

BPA Wildfire Mitigation Plan

BPA integrates continuous improvement methodologies through risk modeling, adherence to operational best practices and collaborative efforts with diverse stakeholders. The scope of BPA's Wildfire Mitigation Plan encompasses four main program elements critical to wildfire mitigation and response:

  1. Public Safety Power Shutoff: proactive de-energization to minimize ignition risk
  2. System Operations: protection and control settings
  3. Situational Awareness: models and tools
  4. System Maintenance and Hardening: asset and vegetation management and upgrades

Ultimately, this plan strives to safeguard the Pacific Northwest by mitigating wildfire risks and ensuring a resilient power infrastructure for future generations.
