Internet-connected thermostats allow users to modify temperatures and schedules remotely and offer the potential for system diagnosis. Products from multiple manufacturers for medium and small commercial buildings cost less than energy management systems. Building owners can use connected thermostats to optimize HVAC energy use, without having to physically be on site.
Most of the electricity savings result from reducing supply fan operation during unoccupied periods, including evenings, holidays and breaks. Since savings are mostly during unoccupied periods, they are indirectly correlated with the number of occupied hours. Energy savings were found to be more dependent on heating system type than building type or heating zone. Current Stage:
