Crooked River Valley Rehabilitation Project (DOE/EIS-0506/SA-1)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) has decided to provide funding for implementation of the Crooked River Valley Rehabilitation Project in Idaho County, Idaho. Crooked River is a tributary of the South Fork of the Clearwater River which in turn is a tributary of the Snake River. The project area involves the lower two miles of Crooked River and the surrounding valley. Project activities consists of moving dredge tailings, reconstructing floodplains and a portion of the stream channel, installing wood debris for bank structure and instream fish habitat, constructing side channels and wetlands, and replanting vegetation. Rehabilitation activities will improve tributary fish habitat and water quality in the Crooked River.

The U.S. Forest Service, Nez Perce - Clearwater National Forests (Forests) was the lead agency for preparation of the environmental impact statement (EIS). The Nez Perce Tribe (NPT) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and BPA were cooperating agencies. As cooperating agencies, the NPT, USACE, and BPA assisted with the preparation of the EIS, including assisting the Forests' administrative review process (36 CFR Part 218, subpart A and B).
