Lineworkers

Help BPA ensure safe and reliable transmission operations throughout the agency’s 15,000 miles of high-voltage transmission as a lineworker!

Duties

  • Construct and maintain wood pole and/or steel tower lines including excavations and footings, framing and erecting towers and poles, hanging insulators and hardware, and stringing, sagging and clipping conductors.
  • Replace and repair damaged steel towers, wood poles, crossarms and conductors.
  • Repair access roads and installs or repairs bridges, culverts, fences and gates.
  • Maintain microwave towers, antennas and airway lighting installations.
  • Patrol transmission lines and report condition of lines.

Requirements

  • Recent training and/or experience in the trade which can be evaluated as providing the skills and knowledge required to perform the duties of the position.
    • Experience may have been obtained by a formal training program in electrical work approved by the Federal Committee on Apprenticeship.
  • Ability to perform the work of a lineworker without more than normal supervision
  • Knowledge of technical theory and electrical equipment related to linework
  • Ability to install, maintain overhaul and repair power line structures and equipment.
