Substation Operators

Help ensure safe and reliable operations at one of BPA’s mission-critical substations as a Substation Operator!

Duties

  • Care and inspect the substation, switchyard operating equipment and non-supervisory-controlled operating equipment.
  • Update district substation operating manuals when necessary.
  • Inform system dispatchers and others of all local information pertinent to the operation of the power system.
  • Plan and perform any switching schedules during tour of duty.
  • Write switch orders and plan and perform switching as delegated by system dispatcher.

Requirements

  • Experience through a formal apprenticeship in substation operations
  • Sufficient recent training and/or experience in the trade which can be evaluated as providing the skills and knowledge required to perform the duties of this position
  • Knowledge of electrical circuitry, safety rules and switching and clearance procedures of a larges interconnected power system
  • Knowledge of the purpose and use of electrical power system equipment and of electrical power system technical practices
  • Ability to interpret instructions, procedures and circuit diagrams
