Advanced lighting control systems, either with wireless sensors, or with luminaire integrated lighting controls, provide capabilities for scheduling, dimming, occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting, personal control, and demand response. Field tests of these features have shown 50 to 70 percent energy savings. However, installation, commissioning, and operation of these complex systems in different environments are barriers to achieving the full conservation potential. Several new advanced lighting control systems are marketed as “plug and play” lighting controls which claim to be easier to install, commission, and operate.
