Low-emissivity (Low-e) windows use insulated glass with a special coating to reduce the amount of heat energy, or infrared radiation, that is transmitted through the window. Storm windows with low emissivity and high visible transmittance reduce heat loss in the winter and pass visible light into the building, preserving views and eliminating the gloom associated with alternative methods, such as insulating shades.
