BPA has joined 11 utilities, a major university and five technical firms across five states in the Pacific Northwest Smart Grid Demonstration Project (PNWSGDP)
. This project, the largest in the nation, involves $89 million in participant funds and the same amount in matching Department of Energy (DOE)
funds through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). Directed by the Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle)
, Pacific Northwest Division in Richland, Wash., the project involves more than 60,000 metered customers. BPA is contributing $10 million to the five-year project, which was matched with an additional $10 million from DOE.
