Our Work

From 2014-2016, BPA performed a study to collect market intelligence on both the residential and commercial HVAC markets. During this project, the team gathered market intelligence to understand how the market works, new trends and technologies and identified opportunities for efficiency programs. During this time we also developed a method and built a model to estimate Momentum Savings for residential air source heat pumps.

From 2017-2019, BPA continued to track the HVAC market by gathering new market intelligence from market actors and by attending the annual AHR Expos. BPA also developed a comprehensive technology guide to inform our market model. In 2019 the team completed a full-market residential HVAC model that determines how Northwest heating and cooling consumption is changing over time and quantifies Momentum Savings. Beginning in 2019, BPA is developing a commercial HVAC market modeling method and piloting data collection.
